If you read Shani Mahatmay, you will come across an incident in which Shani Dev tells a story to King Vikramaditya. Shani Dev explains how impartial he is in inflicting pain and miseries to everyone. He then further tells Vikramaditya that he has not even spared his teacher or his Guru.

Shani Dev Meets His Guru

Shani dev approached his guru or his teacher and told him that it was time to pass or transit over his Moon. His teacher got scared and asked for exemption and requested Shani to spare him. Saturn said that doing so would set a bad precedence. Shani or Saturn is known to be impartial and unbiased. Shani told his teacher that it is his duty to pass over Moon of all people and there cannot be any exceptions.

For those of you who are new to astrology, whenever Saturn transits over the Raashi (zodiac sign) of placement of Moon (also known as Moon Raashi) , one Raashi before such Moon Raashi and one Raashi after that Moon Raashi then the native is said to suffer from Sade Saati (each transit being of 2.5 years). Let me explain with an example. If a person’s Moon is placed in the sign of Leo in birth chart. The Raashi before Leo is Cancer and after Leo is Virgo. Planets as you know are in constant motion. Whenever Saturn enters Cancer, Saade Saati begins. In each Raashi Saturn stays for 2.5 years. Thus, its stay in Cancer, Leo and Virgo for 7.5 Years is termed as Saade Saati.

Even Teacher’s Bargain

Shani’s guru realized that Saturn is in no mood to relent. Thus, his teacher thought of bargaining and reducing the time instead of the usual 7.5 years. Shani suggested 5 years instead of the usual 7.5 years. But his teacher told him to reduce it further. Then Shani proposed 2.5 years but the Guru wanted it to be even shorter. Shani’s guru was very stubborn he didn’t agree even for 7.5 month or 7.5 days. Shani’s guru didn’t want Shani to pass over his moon at all. Again, Shani reiterated that this was not possible. His guru finally agreed to 1.25 Prahar which is 3 Hours and 45 Minutes. Guru felt that this was too short a period and Saturn will not do any harm. Guru planned to spend this time bathing in river and meditating. Shani Dev smiled and thought his Guru doesn’t know his potential.

Testing Time Begins

Finally, the short duration of 3 Hours and 45 Minutes arrived for Shani to pass over his Guru’s Moon. Guru was on his way to the river to bathe. Saturn appeared on his way in the form of Water Melon seller. His shadow fell over his Guru and Guru’s mind changed. Guru got attracted towards the Melon’s. The Melon seller even cut open the Melons to show how juicy they were. Guru bought 2 Melons and, on his way, back from river after bathing carried the two Melons in a bag.

King’s Ordeal

It so happened, on the same day, King’s prince with his minster had gone to the forest to hunt and had not returned. The king sent his soldiers to search for the prince and his minster. The soldiers came across Saturn’s guru and got suspicious at the bag dripping blood. They asked Guru what was there in the bag, Guru replied it had Melons. When the soldiers examined the bag, they found the severed heads of the prince and his minster. Soldiers immediately arrested the Guru, hammered him and took him to the King. The King ordered that the Guru should be hanged till death. All the citizens started throwing stones at the Guru.

Guru on His Death Penalty

Guru became desperate. He realized this was all because of Shani Sade Saati. He offered the Hang man 5,000 silver coins to wait for some time. Guru was confident that things would become better once 3 Hours and 45 Minutes are over. As luck would have it, the time period of Sade Saati lapsed and pat came the prince walking in the courtyard with the minster. The King realized his mistake and ordered for immediate release of the Guru. The Guru realized it was all because of Sade Saati and absolved the King of any blame. When the King peeped into the Guru’s bag there were 2 Melons in it.

Guru meets Shani Dev again

On his way back, Guru met Shani dev and told him that just few hours of his Sade Saati broke his bones. What would happen if Shani Dev had done a complete 7.5 years of Sade Sati! Shani Dev replied that a person who has no arrogance has nothing to worry about Sade Saati. It was only because of his Guru’s attitude that Shani showed his capabilities. Shani asked for forgiveness from his Guru and promised that he will never pass over his moon again!

It is a fact that Shani has not spared anyone including Lord Shiva, Rama, Krishna and many others. Reading or listening to Shani Mahatmay is a very good remedy for natives undergoing Sade Saati period.
