Many people after realizing that they have Kaal Sarp Yoga or Kaal Sarp Dosha in their birth chart get scared and worried. Let me tell you, there is no mention of this kind of Yoga or Dosha in authentic astrology texts like Brihat Parashar Hora Shastra, Phaldeepika, or Bhrigu Samhita, to name a few. Technically as the definition goes when all the seven planets are encompassed between Rahu-Ketu axis, one is supposed to have this Yoga or Dosha. But merely having this kind of placement of planets doesn’t mean that the person’s life is ruined. There are umpteen examples of the world-famous celebrities who are very successful despite having this Kaal Sarp Dosha. Abraham Lincoln, Jawahar Lal Nehru, Dr. Radha Krishnan, Emperor Akbar, Ronald Reagan, Sachin Tendulkar, Dheeru Bhai Ambani, famous actor Rajnikanth and even British film director and producer Alfred Hitchcock did have Kaal Sarp Dosha in their birth chart. One has to see the placement of other planets, their Nakshatras, aspects, star sign, etc. to do forecast and predictions. One also has to see the divisional charts before jumping on to the conclusion that hell has broken loose.
There is a concept called Panchadha friendship in astrology. Panchadha friendship is the final result after considering the Natural and Temporal friendship amongst planets.
Natural Friendship
Certain planets are natural friends of each other, some others are natural enemies of each other, while some are neutral to each other. Below table gives friendship and animosity amongst planets:
Planet | Friends | Enemies | Neutral |
Sun | Moon, Mars and Jupiter | Rahu, Venus & Saturn | Mercury |
Moon | Sun & Mercury | None | Remaining planets |
Mars | Moon, Mars & Jupiter | Mercury & Ketu | Venus & Saturn |
Mercury | Sun & Venus | Moon | Mars, Jupiter & Saturn |
Jupiter | Sun, Moon & Mars | Rahu, Mercury & Venus | Saturn |
Venus | Mercury & Saturn | Sun & Moon | Mars & Jupiter |
Saturn | Mercury & Venus | Sun, Moon & Mars | Jupiter |
Rahu | Venus & Saturn | Jupiter, Sun & Moon | Mercury & Mars |
Ketu | Mars, Venus & Saturn | Sun & Moon | Mercury & Jupiter |
Temporal Friendship
Planets placed at 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th and 12th house from the position of planet are its temporary friends. Whereas planets placed at 5th, 6th, 7th 8th and 9th house from the position of planet are its temporary enemies.
Panchadha Friendship
# | Natural Friendship | Temporary Friendship | Final Friendship | Final Effect |
1 | Friend | Friend | Fast Friend | Fully Benefic |
2 | Neutral | Friend | Friend | Beneficial |
3 | Enemy | Friend | Neutral | Good results in Friendly Dasha |
4 | Neutral | Enemy | Enemy | Obstructive/Harmful |
5 | Enemy | Enemy | Bitter Enemy | Only Malefic & Harmful |
In Kaal Sarp Dosha, what happens is all the planets get placed within in the Rahu-Ketu axis, thus even if they are natural enemies (Naisargik Shatru), they end up becoming temporary friends owing to their placement in 3 houses subsequent and 3 house precedents to the house in which they are placed. Thus, the final outcome of Panchadha friendship is Neutral at worst. Hope I am successful in diluting the fear of Kaal Sarp Dosha which you might have in your mind. Let me explain this further with the help of an example birth chart. Let’s take the birth chart of British film Director and Producer Alfred Hitchcock.
Above is the chart of Alfred Hitchcock. Ignoring Pluto, we can observe that all other planets are within the Rahu-Ketu axis, thus causing Kaal-Sarp Dosha. Now, as we observe even though Saturn and Moon are enemies, they placed in adjacent houses they become temporary friends (refer definition of temporary friendship above). Similary, even though Mercury is enemy of Mars, it again becomes a temporary friend. Also Moon is enemy of Venus but they become temporary friends (refer definition of temporary friendship above). Had there been no Kaal Sarp Yoga these planets would have been scattered all over the charts increasing the chance of loosing temporary friendship. Hope you enjoyed this completely different perspective on Kaal Sarp Dosha.
