Gand Moola Dosha -Explained

Gand Moola Dosha -Explained

Gand means a joint and Moola means base. So, what is wrong with a joint? Let me explain. All Rashis are divided into four Tattvas -Fire, Earth, Air and Water. This sequence order of Fire, Earth, Air and then Water is sacrosanct. Whenever a water tattva sign ends, as per the said order Fire sign begins. This confluence of two Rashi one water tattva and another fire tattva causes trouble. The problem is because two opposite energies water and fire meet each other and cause disturbance.

People loosely term that a native has Gand Moola Dosha if his or her Moon is in Fire sign -Aries, Leo and Sagittarius OR his or her Moon is in Water sign -Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. But this is not always the case. Existence of Gand Moola Dosha is only if the Moon is in a particular pada or charan of the Nakshatra in these Rashis. Below table gives the Nakshatra padas or charans and also the degrees of Moon.

Moon in RashiDegrees of MoonMoon in Nakshatra Pada/Charan
Aries0⁰ to 3⁰-20’Ashwini-First Pada [Lord Ketu]
Cancer26⁰-40’ to 30⁰Ashlesha -Fourth pada [Lord Mercury]
Leo0⁰ to 3⁰-20’Magha -First Pada [Lord Ketu]
Scorpio26⁰-40’ to 30⁰Jyestha -Fourth pada [Lord Mercury]
Sagittarius0⁰ to 3⁰-20’Moola -First Pada [Lord Ketu]
Pisces26⁰-40’ to 30⁰Revathi -Fourth pada [Lord Mercury]

If a native’s Moon is in the above Rashi but not in the above degrees or Nakshatra padas then there is no Gand Moola Dosha. Now, what if the dosha exists? Native will experience adverse results of the planets falling in the Gand Moola Nakshatra. Say for example, for an Aries ascendant, Jupiter which rules 9th house of father has Jupiter placed in Cancer sign in Ashlesha -Fourth pada, then his or her father would be critically ill or even pass away at an early age. Continuing with the same Aries ascendant example, Saturn the ruler of 10th house if placed in the Pisces sign in Revathi Nakshatra -Fourth pada then such native will experience difficulties in job and profession.

Again, the native may not experience the adverse effects of Ganda Moola Nakshatra life-long. If you observe each of the above Nakshatras are ruled either by Ketu or Mercury.  If the native’s Ketu or Mercury are strongly paced in his or her birth chart then the native absolutely will not experience any adverse effects of Gand Moola Dosha. Comfortable placement of Ketu is 5th, 9th and 12th house and comfortable placement of Mercury is 3rd, 6th, 7th and 10th house.

Remedy: People suffering from Gand Moola Dosha are advised to donate Ketu or Mercury related items [depending whose Nakshatra is in Gand Moola] equivalent to their body weight at religious place or at orphanages. Ketu related items are onions, garlic, ginger, bhringaraj, skull cap, etc. Mercury related items are Moong (Green pulse), betel leaves [Paan], walnut, spinach, ghee, etc.
