Jaimini Sutras is an ancient Sanskrit text which throws light on a different school of thought of Hindu Astrology. This sutra is attributed to Maharishi Jaimini the founder of Purva Mimamsa branch of Hindu philosophy. It consists of 936 sutras or aphorisms arranged in four chapters viz. Karakamsha, Arudha, Upapada and Navamsha. The main difference between Jaimini and Parashari school of thought in astrology is Jaimini is more objective and clear way of analyzing a birth chart.
All the Karakas or significators are Chara Karakas (meaning variable) in Jaimini Astrology. One has to consider the seven planets and exclude the nodes -Rahu and Ketu. It is very simple. One is supposed to arrange the planets in his or her birth chart degree wise in descending order. As every birth chart will have different planets in different orders once arranged in descending order, hence it is called Chara (or variable) karakas.
Atmakaraka: The planet with the highest degree is Atma Karaka (AK) which represents one self. Atma means soul, thus AK is the significator of soul. AK is related to the first house or lagna of your birth chart. AK represents the complete personality, your physical body like build, features, mental power, health, longevity, etc. Whenever AK is influenced by planets then that person is also influenced by the significations of those planets.
Amatyakaraka: The planet with second highest degree is Amatya Karaka (AmK). This planet represents your career planet and wealth. It represents your 2nd , 10th and 11th house of your birth chart. We can see the significations of 2nd house which are speech, attitude, financial status, primary education, livelihood, family, food habits, eyes (right eye in particular), etc through AmK. Through AmK we can also see the signification of 10th house which are Career, Name & Fame, Power, etc. Through AmK we can also see the signification of 11th hose which is gains, elder sibling, wish fulfillment, etc. If the AmK is afflicted (relationship with malefic planets) then the native suffers in the areas mentioned of 2nd, 10th and 11th house.
Bhatrikaraka: Bhatrikaraka (BK) planet represents 3rd and 9th house. This is the planet which attains the third highest degree in the birth chart. Bhatri means brother and this planet can be seen to check the signification of third house which is younger siblings, neighbors, short journeys, courage, hobbies, communication ability, etc. This planet can also be seen to check the signification of ninth house which is father, guru, long journey, luck, long journeys, higher education, etc.
Matrikaraka: Matrikaraka (MK) planets is the one which attains fourth highest degree in your birth chart. Matri means mother. It represents 4th house which signifies mother, property, vehicles, happiness, land and agriculture, etc.
Putrakaraka: Putrakaraka (PK) planets is the one which attains fifth highest degree in your birth chart. Putra means child. It represents 5th house which signifies progeny, education, romance, speculation, lotteries, creativity, etc.
Gnyatikaraka: Gnyatikaraka (GK) planets is the one which attains Sixth highest degree in your birth chart. Gnyati means relative. It represents 6th, 8th and 12th houses which are the malefic houses. It signifies 6th house which is illness, debt, and enemies, it also represents 8th house which is the house of transformation, pain, research, in-laws, death and misery, it also represents 12th house which is the house of seclusion, jails, hospitalization, expenses, etc.
Darakaraka: Darakaraka (PK) planets is the one which attains seventh highest degree in your birth chart. Dara means wife. It represents 7th house which signifies business, partner, spouse, public life, etc.
Above is a rather elaborate description of significators in Jaimini astrology. This is essential as it builds a foundation about Jamini astrology. Now, coming back to the topic of checking career status through Jaimin astrology. Similar to Vimshottari Dasha in Parashar branch of astrology, we have Char Dasha concept in Jaimini astrology. In whichever software you are using like Jagannatha Hora software (free software), Parashar Lite, or even Kundli (Mobile app) one can easily see the Char dasha he or she is going through after entering basic details like date, time and place of birth. Unlike Parashari method, Char dasha is always of the zodiac sign and not of any planets.
Have taken the chart of Amitabh Bachhan as an example to explain. As can be seen from above chart, the planet with the second higher degree, significator of career, the Amatyakaraka (AmK) is Mercury at 23⁰ placed in the 8th house. Currently Amitabh is running through Scorpio-Pisces Char Dasha (Scorpio -Maha Dasha and Pisces -Antar Dasha). Thus, one has to make Scorpio as the Lagna (Char Maha Dasha is of Scorpio) and check the position of Amatyakaraka i.e. Mercury. Mercury is placed in the 11th house from the sign of Scorpio. Thus, this Char dasha is very good for his career. Whenever the AmK is placed in 2nd t, 10th or 11th house from the Mahadasha lagna then it is very positive period from career point of view. On the contrary, if the AmK planet is placed in 3rd, 6th, 8th or 12th house from the Mahadasha lagna then it is negative from career point of view.
This method is a very simple and objective method of analyzing a birth chart. You don’t have to depend on any astrologer to check your time period. Hope you enjoyed. In case of any doubts or questions please feel free to post them below in the comments section.
