Lal Kitab is a stream of Astrology which gives super importance to Houses. For every chart, a Lal Kitab astrologer considers the first house as occupying the sign of Aries, second house as Taurus, third as Gemini, so on and so forth. Today, I will be discussing the significance and attributes of first to fourth houses. My article would be a mix of Hindi and English to bring out the poetic verses of Lal Kitab. While it is true that Lal Kitab dispenses with Raashis and Nakshatras but in the broader context it does refer to their importance at many places. Raashis do have their effect -Malefic if Debilitated and Benefic if Exalted. Some planets in some houses are of Raashi Fal, meaning their result is as per the Raashi they are placed. Example -Moon, Mars and Jupiter in house No. 6 are of Raashi Fal.

राशि छोड़ नक्षत्र भुला,

न ही कोई पंचांग लिया,

मेष राशि खुद लगन को गिनकर,

१२ पक्के घर मान लिया

Literal translation of above verse – We have done away with Raashis, Nakshatras and the intricacies of Panchang. Lagna is assigned Aries and so are 12 houses given Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer and so on and so forth.

1^st House (Lagna or Ascendant)

शाह सलामत का तख़्ते बादशाही 

घर पहला है तख्त हज़ारी ग्रह फल राजा कुंडली का

ज्योतिष में इसे लग्न भी कहते झगड़ा मनुष्य हैं माया का।

Presiding Lord -Sun:

It is the house of king. It is the most important house in the birth chart, that is why it is called King, Lagna or the ascendant. An auspicious or exalted planet in the house raises the man to the pinnacle of glory and fame and a malefic planet destroys not only health but also wealth and position. In fact, this house signifies fate, position and prosperity. This house represents body, health, personality, glory, peace of mind. It also represents head, neck and pelvis.

2^nd House (God’s Temple)

घर पक्का दूजा गुरु ब्रह्मगाय स्थान है।

मिलता जहा पर है इकट्ठा मान व जर ससुराल है।

Presiding Lord -Jupiter:

Second house is the house of family. It is the house of speech. It represents right eye. It being a God’ place malefics like Rahu give up their wickedness here. It is the abode of Goddess Lakshmi. This house confers wealth and prosperity. House No. 2 does not aspect House No. 8 but it aspects House No. 6. In this house Moon, Venus and Saturn give Raashi Fal or Sign Results. It is most benefic when occupied by Moon. House No. 9 is the ocean full of monsoon and house No. 2 is just like series of mountains where the monsoon hovers and blesses the hills and valleys with beneficial rains. If house No. 10 is vacant, it becomes asleep.

3^rd House (Bravery and Valor)

घर तीजा है पक्का मंगल धन दौलत के जाने का।

खवेशो अकराब भाई अपने या चोरी अय्यारी का।

Presiding Lord -Mars:

Mars being the lord of 3^rd house represents wealth’s exit. It refers to brothers, relatives, theft and cunningness, right arm, valor, etc. Being bloody in color, its effect is gory. When it resorts to evil, it gives all types of bloody troubles. Moon in this house confers longevity provided it is not afflicted by Saturn. House No. 11 is the house of earnings and House No. 3 is the house of expenditure. If house No. 3, 6 and 8 are occupied by malefic planets there will be death like situation but the saving grace will be planet in House No. 12. If Venus and Rahu are in 12^th house and Saturn is in 3^rd House then Rahu will not be able to harm Venus as Venus will get 10^th aspect of its friend Saturn.

4^th House (Comforts and Luxuries)

चौथे चंद्र को पेट माता और ठंडी रोशनी माना है।

चार तरफ का पानी दुनिया दूध समुद्र दरिया है।

Presiding Lord -Moon:

This house refers to Mother’s womb. It refers to an ocean surrounded by milk on all four sides instead of water. This house rules over heart, travel, mother, earth and horse. It refers to North-Eastern horizon. It also means birds, rice, milk and water birds like duck and Swan. Rahu and Ketu are afraid of mother and they pledge to shun their wickedness in these houses. Saturn in this house is like a poisonous snake and is referred to as Kantak Shani. In this house Venus, Mars and Ketu give Raashi Fal or Sign Results. Benefic Jupiter will give its exalted results only when it occupies 2^nd house and 4^th house in transit. Planets in this house always helps a native at the time of distress especially old age.
