In this method, each planet is allotted fixed points like Sun -9, Moon -8, Venus -7, Jupiter -6, Mars -5, Mercury -4, Saturn -3, Rahu -2, Ketu -1. Now these points are to be multiplied by the House Number in which the respective planet is placed. After that the result for each planet is added and divided by 9. The remainder is the true nature of Mercury. I mean, if the remainder is 6 then Mercury is acting as Jupiter in your chart, if the remainder is 2 then Mercury is acting like Rahu in your chart. Let me explain this with the example of a birth chart.

Here the remainder is 4. Point 4 corresponds to Planet Mercury. Thus, in this chart Mercury would behave like Mercury itself. This method is very important to understand the true nature of Mercury in your birth chart. This give a person better understanding of the planetary combination in case Mercury is conjunct with some planet in your birth chart.
